Babies Don't Take Showers!

Last weekend (not yesterday) we went to Fort Worth for my shower at the church I grew up in. Here are probably way too many pictures...

The traditional Baptist girl church shower table... cake, nuts, colored mints, and punch...

...with an added bonus of a diaper cake made by one of my BFFs, Sarah Brooks, who couldn't be there but sent this greatness.

The cake up close.

The so-creepy-it's-cute sugar baby with a... backwards head?

Me and my momma aka Granna (I think that's the name she's finally settled on.)

With my aunt Emily

With my awesome roomies from college, Gillian and Erin!

I handed Gillian my camera to take pictures of the present opening and she started to have fun. Starting with a picture of Erin...

Then just my big belly...

Then her "artistic shot" which her husband says just looks like she's falling over when taking it. I like it Gillian. Don't let him say that to you. :)

I was excited to get my swing!

And obviously very excited about this book that builds a rainbow with ribbons as you turn the pages.

My mom always gets creative with presents. Here's the bag she made.

It's five presents in one!

The bags spelled out Jake's name!

The bags had three animals that match the bedding, a dalmatian ("because every little boy needs a dog"), and the adorable JAKE nameplate that she made. She also got the 6-piece crib bedding set, the crib mattress, the baby book, and some other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Gillian had the same idea as my mom. Each letter went with one gift. J for Jake's name plate (below), A for Album (photo album she made), K for Kleaning (she said "Just go with it" - it was the thing for cleaning baby stuff in the dishwasher), and E for Eating (a bottle). Genius, Gillian!

The precious name plate Gillian made!

My mom also did a great job wrapping the giant present from my Grammy.

It was the stroller/carseat!

The nursery decorations we got.

The clothes. I LOVE the little vest-and-tie business and the plaid shirt with corduroy khakis.

The LOTS of blankets!

The LOTS of stuffed animals and toys.

The useful stuff.

The shower was really fun and I love everything we got. However, we're still lacking a bunch of the really useful stuff like newborn/0-3 months clothes, sheets, towels/washcloths, etc. You know. All that stuff. If you feel like buying us something check out the registries. They'll tell you what we still need. :)

I ♥ My Roomies!

I lived with some awesome girls in college. We had fun back then:

With Tottie the Tater Tot from Sonic back in the college years.

Gillian lives in Katy, TX and Erin lives in Fort Worth. Three years ago Erin and I drove down to Katy for Gillian's shower. We were excited about her baby!

Then two and a half years ago we went back to visit baby Leelah!

We haven't seen each other since then (except I see Erin a lot when I visit my parents). Then they both came to my shower! We went to Erin's apartment afterwards and continued the pointing picture tradition with me in the middle this time.

Then had to do one with 2 1/2 year old Leelah!

I love you guys! Hope to see you both soon!

Two Stories

1st Story:
I have a friend from church, Angie, who will be "substituting" for me at work while I'm out with the baby. The family had her over yesterday to meet her and everything. I had this conversation with C today after school:
Me: Did y'all meet Angie yesterday?
C: Yeah.
Me: Did you like her?
C: Yeah. She looks older than you.
Me: Well, I think she's like 30, so yeah she could look older than me.
C: You look like you're 18.
Me: I look like a pregnant teenager?
C: No, a tubby teenager.
Me: Great.

2nd Story:
So I have this bear that I got for a Christmas present a couple of years ago. It's the one featured in Jack: The Calendar: January -
I still have it out because I still have out decorations that can be classified as "Winter" and not "Christmas". So a few minutes ago I was putting laundry in the washer, Jack was sitting on the couch, and Jon was in the bedroom. Suddenly I heard something in the living room playing Jingle Bells. I walked in there to find out Haunted Winter Bear had started playing the song on its own. I didn't even know it played music! Weird and weird. The End.

Way To Go, God!

Yesterday's Sunrise. Amazing.

Guess What Tomorrow Is!!!

American Idol starts again tomorrow! Woo! I promise not to go overboard with the AI talk this year like I did last year. I'll wait until Top 24 time to really talk about who I like. That whole writing-down-everyone-who-comes-on-screen business last year wore me out. Although it did get me a lot of blog visitors. Unfortunately there are still three weeks aka 6 episodes aka WAY too many hours of audition episodes, but there will be two weeks of Hollywood Week, which leads up to the announcement of the Top 24, which is great. We'll also see what everyone thinks of this new chick judge. It could be nice to have a sober female judge on the show.
For anyone who has joined me since last year, or for those of you who need a refresher, I will point you to my Top Ten Pieces of Advice For Auditioners of American Idol that I posted last year. It pretty much all still holds true. Enjoy the first few weeks!

It's Been Too Long...

I just looked back and realized I hadn't done a Funny Things post since JUNE! Whoa. Sorry about that. I have a bunch to catch up on, so I'm going to break it down into more than one post. I'll start with the ones that are already on my computer then move on to the ones that have been on my camera for months. Off we go...

Sorry... was I being too loud?

That, my friend, is a commitment to a 15 year old news story.

Someone is probably very bad at Pin The Tail On The Donkey.

Wow. Just wow.

This was really funny to me. It was in the Children's Science Museum bathroom.

White guy + huge afro = hilarious.

Poor baby with no butt to attach his legs to his body.

Sounds fun!

This is about the fanciest street in Little Rock (in the neighborhood where I work) and that was stuck to the sign for probably two months. It was really funny.

Now that's just funny. (Back from this summer.)

This was on a fancy little store in a small town square in Texas. Bling bling jewelry. Ha.

At least the people in the picture above this one spelled the word right!

Jessica Flower Pot's... handles? decorations? What belongs to the POTS?!

Mmmmmmm... bisquits.

Yuck. Bird services.

"Product may vary from items shown... While supplies last. Offers not available at all locations." You'd better hurry up if you want one of those straw hats. You may be disappointed to not find these items exactly!

This facility provides diaper changing equipment... RIGHT HERE!

I want to join THAT institute.

Obviously, but for what?

When all else fails, use duct tape.

32 Weeks!

Here I am at 32 Weeks aka 8 months aka pineapple-sized baby.

Well, actually 33 weeks is pineapple-sized, but 32 weeks is something called a jicama which I've never even heard of. And 31 weeks was "four oranges" and that'd be pretty hard to hold with one hand. So I went with pineapple.
The nursery is finally coming along. And by coming along I mean there is paint on the walls and there are almost no boxes from moving in. I have my first shower next weekend and Jon's mom and sister are ordering the crib for us soon, so it will get a lot better pretty soon.

Useless factoids at 32 Weeks:
Belly Button Status: Still not an outie (yay!) but the edges are starting to stick out just a little bit, but not enough to show through clothes.

Swelling: None! My rings still fit just fine, as do my shoes. And I don't have cankles.

Contractions: Yep. They're not too often yet, but when I get them, they kind of stop me. I had to stop walking through Wal-Mart today, not because I couldn't walk, but because it was just more comfortable not to. I know. They'll get worse. That's why God created epidurals.

Kicking and Such: Jake's always moving. He moves the most when I'm sitting down and kicks/punches/karate chops the hardest when I'm lying on my right side. It honestly feels like he's kicking my right hip bone. Who knew the uterus went that far over?

Breathing: Not going as well, but I've figured out how to push him out of my diaphragm and back to where he belongs. His favorite thing to do, though, is simultaneously push up on my diaphragm and down on my bladder. I may have said that last month, but it's still true.

Indigestion/Heartburn: Not back yet. Not looking forward to that. But he's so low, it may not be as bad as I expect.

Well, that's about all. 8 weeks to go...

Jack and My Belly

They say that dogs are supposed to sense pregnancy and may become more protective or careful around you. Not our genius. Jack's smart and all, but has not at all become aware of my belly. He still jumps up on me, walks across my stomach, and acts like there's not a giant thing growing out the front of me. However, a few weeks ago, he was lying on my belly and I happened to have my camera sitting right there by me. Here's the cuteness:

From my point of view.

Yes. I offer to you a late-at-night-after-shower-wearing-pajamas-and-shirt-sitting-weird picture of me and Jack because it's so cute.

Iciness

This past Monday it was very cold and wet. The trees across the city were covered in ice (but luckily the roads weren't) and it was so beautiful! Jon got some pictures of the trees around our house while it was still light outside. (I get home after dark every day in the winter.)

The shorty tree in the backyard.

The Mystery Fruit tree in the backyard.

The tree across the street.

The Giant Tree in our front yard.
