Music Break

Just a little pre-swimming singing. My favorite part is the fast-forwarded second verse. And how the motions don't quite match the words.

Jake The Ringbearer

So Jake was the ring bearer. We all went into it knowing anything could happen. You know. Since he's two. I knew that he wouldn't make it all of the way, because when he is being told to go somewhere, he frequently stops, laughs, and runs the other way. Like so...

The flower girl did such a great job keeping him going. I had started out with him at the back and told him to "Go to Josh!", then ran down the room along the side of the chapel, jumped back out at the front, sticking my head out into the aisle to get him to go the rest of the way.
I felt bad because I didn't notice ahead of time that his shirttail was out. (Sad face.) I had been nearly wrestling him in the back of the church to keep him from running off and that's what happened. Oh well. He made it to the front and entertained everyone.

Jake Sings!

Jake LOVES singing. It's pretty much half of his words. But it's mostly Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the ABCs. (Which, by the way, are the same tune. Two very special people in my life didn't realize that until I told them.) He loves that tune. In fact, walking through Target the other day, he saw the rack of bouncy balls and started singing "ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball..." to that tune. It was hi-larious.
Anyway, I got a video of him singing the ABCs the other day.
Favorite part #1: The way he says l-m-n-o.
Favorite part #2: How he completely freezes one line from the end.

Speaking English

Jake has finally started speaking English! For the past week or so, it seems like he adds a new word or two to his vocabulary every day! And I'm talking words that actually sound like the words! Since this weekend, he has started saying ear, toes, "the end", all right!, and his favorite... "thank you". He says it about everything and it's so stinkin' cute! The ladies in the nursery at church on Sunday said that he told them thank you after they changed his diaper. Here's a little video, since I haven't posted one in a while. It takes forever-and-a-day to upload from here, but I found out that I can post videos onto YouTube at school. Shhhhh... You didn't hear me say that. So here's the recent cuteness. My favorite is the wave at the beginning.

He Did It!

He finally figured it out! Also, watch for Jack. Not the time he walks by the camera. Later.

14 Months Old!

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late. Not much has been going on. I'll be posting about Jake's first airplane ride soon though!

He's 14 months old now! Say what?!

The foot has now surpassed the finger.
He's been making some major progress with the
start of his physical therapy. Here are his new skills:

This was several weeks ago. It's about time!

Watch out people! He's in motion!
(Even if it is just army-style.)

And this just happened in the past few days. He knows a word! To all outside ears, it doesn't sound like anything, but I waited a few days to proclaim it just to make sure. It really is intentional! He says it when he sees Jack, when I say something about Jack, or when we see a dog in a book. Yay first word!

Did You Know?

I was unaware of the fact that green beans spark in the microwave. Since I'm forcing my child to eat something that I myself don't eat, I've recently learned this. Also, no forcing is involved. He loves the stuff.

It Happened Again

This was the first time.

11 Months (and 3 days) Old!

One month left in the first year! I did take these pictures on his "birthday" but was busy all weekend.

11/12 of a year old!

Hi.

Everybody now: "Hey, ho, hey ho..."

As of late:

He's learning to pull up on things.

Some times are better than others.
(FYI: He still doesn't crawl or roll over or attempt to walk when standing, so we have had an evaluation and he will be starting physical therapy soon.)

Jake enjoyed his first Super Bowl.

He has started pointing at everything.
He also waves hi and bye,
but I don't have a picture of it.

He currently is chewing on everything again.
His top teeth are coming in.

He LOVES making loud noises with both his voice and with objects. This past week he discovered what I like to call his Banshee Yell. It's loud and proud. He also likes banging on things. Like bowls or...

He figured this one out really quickly.
Also, pardon the disaster area behind us.

10 Months Old!

10 Months Old... That's 5/6 in fractions!

He is pretty much the happiest guy in America.

He's had a foot growth spurt recently.
He's been in 12-18 month socks for a while.

We celebrated being 10 months old with his first meat, pasta, bread, veggie, and fruit meal. He loved it!
(And I have NO idea what I'm doing, so I'm probably not doing this "real food" thing right. Oh well.)

Things Jake Is Up To:

He loves sitting on the floor and playing with his toys.
And taking off his sock.
And drooling.

He loves this talking puppy that Mimi got him for Christmas. You plug it into the computer and put in his name, and it sings and says his name. He thinks it's great!

He also loves all of the bath toys he got for Christmas. There is a flowing fountain with different kinds of buckets to put under the stream, and a boat with lots of different animals. This was the first night with the new toys, so we put ALL of them in there with him!

Pretty much everything else has been covered recently:
Two crooked teeth
Sort of pulling up
Not crawling
Sticking up hair
Being awesome

Jake and Jack have started "playing together" a little. Jake will grab Jack's rope and Jack will come take it away. It's great that they both seem to know to be gentle with each other. Jake will pet Jack and Jack just sits and lets him. Or this happens...

First Snow!

Sorry. I've been playing around with my movie maker that I got for Christmas. Two years ago. I wanted to try to mix in the pictures with videos for the two of you who care.

And here is the video. Yes. It's long. The best part is when the snow hits his face when we go outside. His reaction is pretty funny...

Funny Guy

Jake will get in a mood where one particular thing is hilarious. Next time you do it, it's not hilarious. Tonight it was throwing a wet paper towel in the air and saying "wooooo!"
It was seriously funny.

Garage Saling

(Pardon the snot and drool. He's still sickish.)
I like garage sales. I've found good things before. But I'm not one of those people who gets up every Saturday at 6am to go to them. I get mad when I get to a sale at 11:00 and they're already closed. Especially when I made a special trip for it. Now that Jake is sitting up on his own and it's still 6 weeks until Christmas, I thought we needed to head out and look for some "floor toys". Today I found all of these and spend just $18. We have:
a taggie football that jingles
the drums that play music
phone and remote that play music
bead maze toy that plays music
story book butterfly that sings to you
stacking rings that play music
ball drop toy that plays music
and the xylophone.
Can you see a (noisy) theme here? I'll tell you that my back seat was very noisy on the drive home. I also got 6 Leap Frog DVDs for only $20. I was really excited about those.
Jake has already figured out the xylophone...

And Sleep Prevails

Two nights this week I was feeding Jake his food and he fell asleep in the middle of eating. The second time I got it on video. (Sorry for all of the food on his face. Also, I'm alternating carrots and bananas because he likes to gag on the carrots. If I give him bananas first, though, he won't gag as much. I'm one of those people who eats one food at a time, so I feel bad for him when I do this.)

He still had quite a bit of food left.

He then fell forward against the giraffe, leaving the lovely dent in his head that you see here. So I leaned him back to finish his nap.

Jake's New Hobby

For the past couple of days Jake has been doing this. I finally caught it on video last night as I was changing him into his pajamas...

Eat Your Veggies!

Despite his attempt at persuading me with his bib,
it was time to start veggies.

So we put on the giant plastic bib to avoid his
super cute clothes and bibs getting stained.
(Yes, he eats in his swing. We don't have a high chair yet.)
And off we went...

It was a success!
Yes, Mom, I know you don't like food-on-face pictures.

Exersaucer Craziness!

Jake was VERY excited to be in the exersaucer tonight. (I decided I needed to start making the vids a little shorter so you people might actually watch them.)

He then began to crack himself up...

Five Months Old!

Here we go again!

And a tongue.

Recent developments:

Sleeping in his crib (instead of next to me in the bassinet.)
That scrunchy face is because of the pre-flash on the camera.

Eating fingers (and toes) all of the time.

Trying rice cereal one day...
...and the next. (Didn't work. Even after thickening. Will try again soon.)

Drooling non-stop.

Looking cute non-stop.

Playing in the exersaucer, although not able to touch the bottom.

Playing the slot machines.

And reading (while drooling).

And this video sums up Jake's entire life in 20 seconds:

1. Chewing on things
2. Drooling
3. Playing in the exersaucer
4. Talking ALL of the time
5. Chewing on fingers

Jake's Monday

When we got to work today, C-man was going out of town and left notes.

Including to both of us.

D, Jake and I went to a local church that has an indoor playground. Nobody was there when we got there so Jake got to play a little.

He enjoyed the slide.

And climbed up the levels.

And went across the rope bridge.

This afternoon Jake discovered his laugh. He's been giving little single laughs up to this point, but not long giggles like this. The other voice you hear is D trying to help me make him laugh. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, the second half is better.

Tonight he figured out how to get all of his toes in his mouth.

"What? They're good!"

All the toe eating wore him out and he fell asleep in the middle of the living room.
