Just The Facts

Baby Gender Day is Friday! Time for The Big Vote! Here are the facts you may consider before making your decision.

The last 6 babies born in our Sunday School class were all girls.
The 6 girls due between now and March in our Sunday School class are all having boys.
Our baby has two cousins: both girls.
Both Jon and I come from families where the girl was born first and the boy was born second.
Alyssa Kate refers to the baby as a boy.
My grandmother refers to the baby as a girl.

Babies Babies Everywhere

Not mine. I do however know SEVENTEEN people who are currently pregnant. Not exaggerating. There are probably more I don't even know about! Are you one of them?

Anyway. I helped hostess a baby shower for Sally, a girl in our Sunday School class. The other hostesses were talking about cake and stuff, and I said it would be cheaper and more awesome to do cupcakes. So I unfortunately volunteered. Never again will I make two dozen each of two different kinds of cupcakes with two different kinds of icing. They were delicious and popular, but a heckuva lotta work.

The cookies and creme cupcakes had an oreo on the bottom!

The baby, Ryder Ray Reynolds, will have a construction theme in his nursery so that was part of the theme of the shower.

My table layout

Sara made a beautiful bouquet for the table.

Sally scored a bunch of presents!

All one million hostesses.

Which brings up a discussion I had with my mom last night. I was talking about how I felt bad for Sally since there were eight hostesses and that was a bunch of gifts to have to buy. She not only had never heard of this tradition, but was also appalled by it. She said maybe it's an Arkansas thing, but I remember going to showers in the past where the hostesses received gifts from the person for whom the shower was being thrown. Here's a poll about it.

Somebody's Not Happy

I got a comment on my last post about someone putting a link to my poll somewhere so that everyone would vote for Taylor Hicks. I found out where. It's at the Taylor Hicks fan site. They've been coming and voting for him. I'm going to leave the poll up though because a bunch of people have come by that agree with me and have voted for others. So we'll just see where this goes...

Taylor Hicks Eliminated

If you have watched American Idol for any time at all, I hope that you would agree with me that Taylor Hicks is easily the worst of the six winners so far. I never liked him from the time his big gray head walked into the auditions. His dancing, if you could call it that rather than seizing, is awkward and hard to watch and his voice just isn't that great. I have no idea how he managed to pull in enough votes to beat Katharine McPhee in season 6.
Apparently some producers somewhere have decided that they agree with me because Taylor no longer appears in the opening credits. During the opening credits of the show, they show performances of the past winners in the background of the animation. The jerky awkward clip of the Taylor was shown at the very end of the credits last season (Season 6). Now that season 7 has started and they have a new winner, Jordin Sparks appears at the end and Taylor Hicks is missing. That's fine by me. He was horrible. When he should be shown you can see his body seizing up on the screen, but they don't show his face. (It's hard to tell on this video, but you can notice if you watch it on the tv.)
I taped the credits and showed them at regular speed, then I slowed it down to show you where each person is and where Taylor isn't. Waste of time? Yes. Interesting? Maybe. Do you care? Probably not.

You probably didn't notice this either, but during all of the auditions with all of the backgrounds that have the former idol winners on it, they never showed Taylor's picture. Again, fine by me.

Also: New poll about American Idol on the side. Looks like the last poll had the most people liking reality shows, but ready for real tv to come back. Luckily the strike is over and we can all rejoice. :)

I Finally Thought of One

New poll is up questioning your addiction to television (in the side bar) .

American Idol!

According to the poll, you guys are right there with me in the shows you are most looking forward to. My first (if you've been paying ANY attention, you would know this) is LOST and then American Idol and then Big Brother and Jericho. This happens to also be the exact same order of the results of the voting this time. But the focus of this post is my adoration for the American Idol. Since so many of you voted for it, I now feel that I can talk about it on here. I know some of you who haven't watched it in the past may start watching it this season due to the complete lack of other shows because of the writer's strike. Now you'll just find out what you've been missing.

So as the show begins I present...

Ashley's Top Ten Pieces of Advice For Auditioners of American Idol

1. Do not wear a costume. It will not distract the judges from how badly you sing.
2. Do not sing any of Simon's favorite songs. That includes Unchained Melody and Mack the Knife. He has a standard for those and you are below it.
3. Unless your name starts with C and ends with hristina Aguilera, do not FOR ANY REASON sing Lady Marmalade. Seriously. You will be bad.
4. Do not attempt any song made famous by a former American Idol. Especially Kelly Clarkson. They are way better than you.
5. Do not sing a song that is typically heard at a wedding, such as Celebration or YMCA. You will sound even worse than you actually are.
6. Less than 1% of people can handle singing Whitney, Aretha, Celine, and Mariah. You are not one of them.
7. Do not dance. If you feel like dancing, head over to that crapfest Dance War on ABC. This is a singing competition.
8. Do not beg or cry. We don't want to hear your sob story. It won't affect your ability to sing.
9. If you suck at your first song, don't ask to sing another one. You'll still suck.
10. Memorize your lyrics, moron.

We'll see how many of these are not followed in the first night. I have Bible study during the show Tuesday night, but I may stay up and watch it when I get home, depending on how late it is. If not, I'll be back Wednesday with my opinions of the show for both days. Who else is going to be watching and if you are, do you have any advice I may have left out for those auditioning?

New Poll

Five posts in one night! What?!

I know I've had that poll up a long time, so I finally took it down. Seems that the largest percentage of you don't actually know me. After that, the most people go to church with me here. I kind of expected those results. I have a new poll and it has to do with something I like a lot: TV. Which winter premiere are you most looking forward to? I set it so you can pick two because I want to pick two. I'm interested to see how many of you are like me. I won't say which are my favorites until the end. Vote away!

UPDATE: It looks like the percentage is going to be out of 200 on this one since you can vote for two things. That's weird.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I now have no idea what the percentage is going to be because it is currently 50% vs. 50% vs. 33.3% vs. 16.7%. I'm just going to look at the longest bars to figure it out.

Boring

Ok. That last poll was boring. The winner was obviously visiting family as the favorite thing about Christmas. Second was Christmas cookies. And I agree, those are the two best (secular) things about Christmas. Alright. This new poll is one I was going to wait to do but I can't wait any longer. Who are you people? Please tell me. I don't know how I could have this many people visiting each day. If you click "other" then please explain. If you haven't commented before, maybe tell me who you are? Love y'all. You keep me on my toes.

And The Winner Is...

A Christmas Story!

I have closed the poll because I feel you are ready for the next one. A Christmas Story, which actually IS the best Christmas movie ever made, came out on top with 35.7% of the vote!
Miracle on 34th Street, Rudolph/Frosty/Santa, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone all tied for 2nd place with 14.3% of the vote. Now on to the next question: What is your favorite Christmas tradition? (Completely secular question.)

In honor of A Christmas Story winning y'all's favorite movie, I'm going to share my top 25 favorite quotes from the movie. I watched it for the first time this year today. (I don't know what took me so long.) I wrote them down as I went.
I linked as many as I could find to their sound files. Sorry if some don't work. I tried. Unfortunately I couldn't find some of my very favorite ones (marked with stars) that I used to have the sound file for.
In chronological order in the movie, here we go...

"They looked at me as if I had lobsters crawling out of my ears."

"I want an official Red Ryder carbine action 200 shot range model air rifle. Oooooo."

"In the heat of battle, my father wove a tapestry of obscenity that, as far as we know, is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan."

"Only one thing in the world could have dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window."

"Listen to this sentence: 'A red ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.' Poetry. Sheer poetry."

"Don't want to waste electricity."

"My old man's spare tires were actually only tires in the academic sense. They were round. They had once been made of rubber."

* "Only I didn't say fudge. I said THE word. The big one. The queen mother of dirty words. The F dash dash dash word."

"My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium. A master."

"Deck the hars with boughs of horry. Fa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra. Tis the season to be jorry. Fa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra..."

Something New and Fun

Since I actually seem to have people regularly coming to my page now, I'm going to start doing polls on here. Why? Why not? Watch on the left side for polls and their results.
