The Fest of River

I seem to recently be really bad about posting pictures in a timely manner. On Memorial Day weekend each year, Little Rock has this huge thing down at the Arkansas River called Riverfest. It's huge. It lasts all weekend. We went all weekend.

Friday night we saw Huey Lewis and the News. (Yep. Bad picture.)

This lady with a glowing headband and glowing tambourine really enjoyed the show.

Saturday we went back. When we got to the concert area, we saw this guy with the weirdest shoes ever.

We saw Better Than Ezra.

And One Republic. (I know. Bad again.)

Jesus was there.

Saturday my BFF Sarah came into town and went with us. She went with us on Sunday too. Here we are riding the shuttle to the fest. It's the only picture I got of myself all weekend. And yes, we're wearing the same shirt. That happens a lot. I also took my new camera that night.

When we got there we walked across the new Junction Bridge across the river.

This is the Little Rock side crossbeams.

Pretty sunset on the Arkansas river.

That night we saw ZZ Top!

It smelled like marijuana.
And lots of people were taking high quality pictures with their camera phones.

Then fireworks!

These were weird parachute-wearing fireworks-on-a-string. (Better if you make it bigger.)

We ran into two couples from our Sunday School class on the way to watch the fireworks, so we sat with them and their adorable children.

Watching the fireworks.

So precious.

Mom and the kids.

Zoo Field Trip... aka I Still Love My Camera

D's class went to the zoo yesterday and I got to go with them!

While we were waiting to go in, we saw this giraffe sculpture that we noticed had a nest in its nose.

That had a bird in it! (Couldn't quite get this one clearly.)

Funniest thing I've seen a giraffe do #1

This poor clipped-wing bald eagle was sitting right by the fence of his open air "cage".

This guy had the funniest smile.

Sorry, SKH. I did leave off the pictures of US feeding the birds, because the other lady did a really bad job with them.

This was THROUGH the glass of the monkey cage. Say what?!

This guy kept giving me the stink eye.

Scary alligator snapping turtle through the glass of his tank. Again... what?

"D, frown at the large cost of our small lunch!"
(Grilled cheese, corn dog, 2 bags of chips and 2 drinks: $12)

Then I got a great shot of his beautiful eyes looking up at the ceiling. (His nose is kinda dry and cracking right now. Kinda gross.)

The old lady brigade was also eating at the zoo cafeteria that day.

We ended up staying for five hours and he was exhausted. (We got to meet his class there, who stayed for only two hours. We ate lunch and then stayed two more hours. The old lady brigade greatly increased our time in the cafeteria.)

I ♥ My Camera

I can't tell you how much I LOVE my new camera. (It's a Canon Digital Rebel XTi, if you care.) I've been having so much fun with it as I try to figure out all it can do. Here are a few of my favorite pictures I've taken in the past few weeks.

The road outside the house I work at is COVERED in cherry blossom petals. It's really pretty right now.

Got pollen?

A cool shot of their piano

Playground rocks!

The boys' grandparents' dog

D at the park

C actually took this one and it came out really well

Hey Guess What!

I received two small gifts of money at the end of this week and it finished up the $900 I needed for my camera! (Actually, I had $890, but close enough!)

So I took my envelope of money...

Which I loved so much...

And first went to Staples...

To get the MUCH cheaper memory card...

Then headed to Bedford (a local chain)...

I went back to Staples to get a bag for the camera and headed out to try the guy out. (All of the rest of the pictures are taken by the new camera.)

The first picture taken by my new camera!

Everything is blooming around here.

There are white trees everywhere.

I think this is my favorite picture I took today.

Then I went back home and got a shot of me with my camera. Yep. In the mirror.

I busted out the user manual to find out about all of the buttons and saw this funny page. Wouldn't you hate to have that in your obituary: Death by Camera.

A few of my Easter decorations.

The AC units outside of our apartment.

One of my Willow Trees.

My camera can even make my cell phone look cool!

And then I went after Jack. He was scared of it at first, but then would look at me. The best part is that, unlike my old camera, his eyes aren't glowing green in all of the pictures!

Hey! A close-up of his paws!

Then he got tired of me trying all of the settings out on him and kept giving me his profile when I put the camera up to my eye.

But then he started looking back at me again.

Tomorrow I'm going with my sister-in-law, another friend, and their kids to a Daffodil festival to take pictures. Hopefully I'll come back with some good ones. Yay new camera! Oh, and I had two extra dollars left over from the $890. Perfect estimation!
